This week on Facebook I posted a question asking what skincare issues the group wanted to focus on. I think I had more responses on this question than any other Facebook post. So, the next day, I posted answers to all the issues people asked about from, acne, aging, puffy eyes and more. Today, I wanted to capture all these tips in one place.
First up, is acne: Diet is huge when it comes to acne. If you drink soda, eat processed foods, fried foods, fast food, junk food, this is the very first place to start. However, what if you have a really clean diet and you still have acne or breakouts? Remember, check with your doctor before adding in supplements.
1. You may have a gluten sensitivity or even Celiac. You don’t have to get expensive tests to determine this. Eliminate gluten from your diet for 3-4 weeks and just notice if your skin improves.
2. Dairy, many individuals with acne have dairy allergies or sensitivity. I fall into this category. Again, eliminate dairy from your diet.
3. Zinc: Zinc is super powerful in combatting acne. Just 50 mg per can sometimes make a huge difference. If I see a spot coming on, I’ll take zinc for a few days. I tend to not take it all time.
Next up: fine lines, wrinkles and pre-mature aging. Again diet is huge here. You will not look you absolute best if you’re diet is not clean. Especially once you start to hit mid 30’s and early 40’s this really starts to show up. In our 20’s we can get by with a lot and our skin and body will not always show the abuse we’ve put it through. Alcohol in particular is terrible for your skin.
Eliminate sugar from your diet and you will be AMAZED how great your skin will look. Sugar causes glycation which is when the sugar attached to collagen after consumed, it weakens the collagen which makes a great recipe for more visible fine lines and wrinkles.
CoQ10 is another supplement I take regularly and I look for it in my face lotion. You can even find just CoQ10 face serums. It’s great for brown age spots, fine lines and wrinkles and just overall skin health.
Speaking of age spots and acne scars. A little lemon juice on the spot can do wonders. Stick with this, you want to keep up the routine for a few months. It will help fade the spots and scar.
Vitamin C is my SECRET WEAPON, I consume 2,000 -4,000 mg per day. It’s incredible for skin health and if you want the glow, this will do it. Do not, I repeat DO NOT start out with 2,000 – 4,000 mg per day. You absolutely have to work up to this amount. Start with a small dose, 500 mg and see how your body reacts. Otherwise, you just might end up in the bathroom all day. In large doses, it’s a major diarrhetic, so you have to build up a tolerance. Over time, I worked up to 4,000 mg. It only took a few weeks and you are still getting all the great benefits along the way.
I hope this helps and I’d love to hear any tips you have.
